Some people say knowledge is power.
Some people say applied knowledge is power.
Some people are wrong.
Some people will disagree. That's okay. Einstein agrees with me.
Knowledge IS power.
The reason we think it's not sometimes is because we mistake information for knowledge.
We mistake information for knowledge.
Words on a screen, in a book, or in your ear, are just information.
***Knowledge is what you gain after doing what you learn from the information.***
You get knowledge, after you do.
My wife is a social worker and she loves what she does. She went back to work 13 months ago.
Before she took the job, we knew she was going to be the Director one day. She started off as a regular social worker and 12 months later she was promoted to be the Director of Social Work.
She knew the Director got paid a salary. She knew what was required to be the Director. She was given all that information before accepting the position.
She was excited to take the position.
A month after being Director, her excitement has turned into “Being a manager is not all it’s cracked up to be.”
She still loves what she does. But her knowledge of being the Director gives her a different look on the position.
Having the actual EXPERIENCE gives her real knowledge of what it really takes. She’s now empowered.
“Do the thing, have the power” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Experience the thing. Get the knowledge.
Someone else's knowledge is only information to you.
The previous Director of Social Work had knowledge about what it took to be the director. She shared that knowledge with my wife, but it was only information to my wife.
You can't pass on knowledge because you can't pass on experiences. You can only pass on information about either.
After you have experience(s) by acting on the information, then you have knowledge. And your knowledge is only information to those you share it with.
You SHOULD pass the information on. So your audience can run with it, experience things for themselves, and gain knowledge.
In Emails That Make Sales we give you information AND execution examples to help you experience something with the information. So you can gain the knowledge.
APPLIED information becomes knowledge.
So knowledge IS power.
And information is potential power.
How can you help your audience turn the information you give them into knowledge?
